Silversea Silver Shadow

Silversea Silver Shadow Review

Looking for something a bit special for your next cruise? Recently, we were lucky enough to have dinner on board the spectacular Silversea Silver Shadow, whilst it was visiting Sydney on its overnight stay.

With its spacious suites, and one of the highest guest to crew ratios on the seas, its not hard to see why Silversea has been pioneering luxury cruise travel for almost a quarter of a century.

The relaxed atmosphere of calming, down to earth style of cruising, mixed with such a wide variety of ports on offer worldwide, have made Silversea a name to be revered within cruising circles. The Silver Shadow sailed into Sydney and spent a day and half for its guests to explore the city – not unusual as a high number of ports are overnight or longer.

With your choice of picture windows or huge verandas, personal butlers and the only Relais and Chateaux restaurant on the seas, every whim is satisfied and explored.

The total of only 382 passengers means that you are never feeling crowded, even when boarding or disembarking.

It’s the touches like the solid teak decking around the pool area, the arena style seating in the lounge so that guests never miss a show, and the simple fact that guest comfort is foremost in all aspects of service, that make Silversea stand out.

Dinner was a multi-course highlight, with multiple options on offer for a variety of dietary and culinary choices. Barry’s favourite was the Cream of Asian Mushroom with Toasted Almond Flakes Soup, and Mario delighted in the Cioccolato Arriba (Italian Profiteroles) with rich marsala zabliglione cream.

As Planetdwelllers is a Sydney-based company, it wouldn’t be a review without mention of the coffee. It was excellent!

An interesting presentation during dessert was the Grappa – white chocolate, dark chocolate and cinnamon. This makes extraordinary affogatto according to Dave, who, along with Barry, was lucky to cruise the Alaskan Inside Passage last year on board its sister ship the Whisper.

Our verdict is clear – Silversea luxury cruising set the benchmark and still continues to rise to the occasion!

Planetdwellers Hot Tip: Make sure you take up the chance to dine by the pool with the fantastic hot rock service, with fresh seafood and other delicacies cooked at your table, under the moonlight. Spectacular!

Heads Up: The Silver Shadow is about to undergo a full refurbishment, in the next few months. Once completed, it should rival its new industry disruptor big sister, the Silver Muse.
